A baby's cry drew Marain, the elder monkey, away from her family. The cry was coming from a strange tree, high up in its branches.
When she climbed up the tree, Marain found a baby. He looked like a monkey but had no tail. As she held him, he stopped crying and began to laugh with her.
Suddenly, Jorar, a ferocious panther, sprang at them. Marain risked her own life to save the baby.
Marain brought the baby to her family. "You cannot keep it," said the leaders of the family. "It's not our kind."
"Jorar will kill him. He has no family." Marain explained. Reluctantly, one of the leaders, Merak, agreed to let her raise the child. Marain named the baby Harkan.

Story 2: Finding The TruthMarain treated Harkan like a normal monkey, teaching him their ways.
One day Marain wandered into the jungle. She wanted to find out where Harkan came from. Marain asked the bright birds, the singing snails, and the chirpy chimps. None of them knew what Harkan was.
At the end of the day Marain was very tired and decided to go home. That is when she met the wise monkey, Moko. "I do not know where Harkan was from," he said. "But I know where his family is."
Moko the old and wise monkey led Marain deep into the jungle. When they reached a giant tree, Moko showed Marain a creature that looked like Harkan. It was almost the same as a monkey but was bigger and had no tail, just like Harkan. The animal was injured and would soon die.
"Harkan's whole family had been killed by Jorar." Told Moko. On hearing this Marain finally found out the truth but decided to keep it a secret.
