Farm Animal's Bedtime Tales

The Tales - 5 years to 6 years

Farm Animal's Bedtime Tales series is one of my novel projects. I've written many stories in this topic and will soon compile them and sell it as a young children's book. As a demo of the book I'll add a couple of those stories here.

Meant for children aged 5 to 6 these meaningful stories are specially created to be read aloud to young children. The tales are beautifully written with enough detail and activity; and can easily be elaborated or simplified by the reader to suit each child; through this children can begin to develop their early reading skills.

Diana's Picnic

Diana the dog lay back in her puppy kennel. She hated to be doing nothing so he went off outside. She found a pool of mud and rolled over and over in it. She loved the mud.

Larry Lamb hurried to her. 'Don't forget the picnic,' he said. But Diana just barked. She knew her dad, Razlo the guard dog, would make her clean herself up first and she couldn't be bothered.

'It's time to get ready, Diana,' said Momma Hen.

"Baa,' bleated Larry Lamb. 'Picnic time!'

Diana took no notice. She rubbed some mud on herself. She shook herself so it made funny sounds. She would rather have fun being muddy than go to a picnic.

The farmyard grew quiet. Diana's tummy rumbled. She thought of the others eating all the lovely picnic food. How she wished she got ready on time!

A few raindrops splashed down, then more and more.

'I'm lucky!' Diana shouted. The rain quickly washed away the mud. Soon Diana's fur was as white as ever. She skipped to the barn where the other animals were sheltering. Then the rain stopped and the sun came out.

'Come on!' Cried Diana. 'Lets eat. I'm starving.' They carried the baskets of food into the field and they all enjoyed a wonderful picnic.

Razlo Saves The Piggies

Razlo the guard dog lay sleeping in his lovely new kennel. It would be hours before Charlie the cockerel would be waking up the farmyard. Suddenly he awoke with a start! The piglets were making a dreadful noise - snorting and fumbling, scratching and rustling in the pig sty.

He sniffed the night air. He could smell a wolf!

He rushed round to the back of the pig sty. Razlo ran up, barking and growling so fiercely that the wolf ran off with his tail between his legs. He was so frightened he would never return to this farmyard again.

Farmer Mark ran up, wearing his pajamas with his dressing gown flapping and his boots on the wrong feet. He knew at once what had happened.

'Good boy, Razlo,' he said, patting Razlo's head. 'Back to sleep now, old boy. He won't bother us again.'

When Razlo woke again next morning, he sniffed the morning air. Outside his kennel there was a large juicy bone - a reward from Farmer Mark.

Eight Sun Burnt Piglets

Mrs Patty Pig's young family had eaten their lunch and were resting in the sty. It was summer and very hot.

'I'm going out for an hour to see Mr. Razlo the guard dog,' she said. 'Mind you stay in the shade. Your skin is very pink and you're not very hairy, so you could get sun burnt.'

As soon as she left, Patsy, the eldest and naughtiest of the eight piglets, waddled over to the patch of sunlight on the other side of the sty.

'Come on,' she called to her siblings. 'It's lovely and warm here.'

Soon all the piglets were having a great time chasing each other from the sun, into the shade, and back again. It was very tiring, and one by one they fell asleep, but forgot - they were in the sun!

When Mrs Pig arrived at the sty she found eight red and very sore piglets. 'I told you to stay out of the sun, didn't I' she scolded. 'I hope you have learned your lesson!'
